It isn't every anniversary that you get crowned... but I had the distinct honor of being the recipient of an $1100 diamond crown on my 25th wedding anniversary. Yes, it's true! Mind you it wasn't a crown that was placed on my head. No, my diamond crown had to be fitted properly in a three hour private ceremony where I was definitely the center of attention! Once the fitting was done I was told the actual crowning ceremony will take place on July 30th!
The Rest of the Story....
Victor and I had planned to spend our 25th anniversary in San Francisco, exploring the California Academy of Sciences Museum in Golden Gate Park and having lunch there (... you know, something different from our regular anniversary celebrations). The day before our anniversary I bit into a breath mint and broke a tooth. I called my dentist and he could get me in at 10AM the next day... our anniversary. After examining the tooth the dentist told me that I needed to have a crown installed. I had a choice of the $950 version made of porcelain fused to metal (which he didn't recommend), or the recommended $1100 diamond crown that was stronger and would last much longer. After consultation with Victor, we decided to go with the diamond crown.
They took the needed impressions and fitted me with a temporary crown, telling me to make sure I didn't chew meat or anything "sticky" on that side of my mouth. Needless to say, neither of us felt like going to San Francisco after the dentist adventure. I was still numb from Novocain and feeling like I needed a nap. So we went home to decide how we wanted to spend the rest of our special day.
We decided to make reservations for late afternoon at our favorite Italian restaurant near home. We were greeted warmly by the owner who we have known for years and seated at "our special table" in a little private alcove by the window. We ordered the mushroom ravioli which was easy to chew and delicious. We then feasted on tiramisu for dessert. We both agreed that even though our special anniversary plans were upset, we truly did enjoy our low-key celebration.
So that's the story of how I got crowned on our 25th wedding anniversary... one that we will always remember.
